Haematologica
is owned by a non-profit organization, the Ferrata Storti Foundation. The aim
of the Foundation is to stimulate and promote the study and research on
diseases of the blood and their treatment by supporting the journal and by
promoting continuing medical education in hematology. The monthly Continuing
Medical Education (CME) program is designed for physicians who wish to advance
their current knowledge of clinical hematology. In order to participate in this
program, physicians must be one of the following:
• active members
of the European Hematology Association (EHA);
• active
members of the Italian Society of Hematology (Società Italiana di Ematologia,
SIE);
• active
members the Spanish Society of Hematology and Hemotherapy (Sociedad Española de
Hematología y Hemoterapia, SEHH);
• subscribers to the print or online journal.
The online CME program has been approved by the European Council for Accreditation in Hematology (ECAH, EUR/02/C/F/TH-84902) of the European Hematology Association (EHA). ECAH has designated participation in the CME program as worth one hour of credit for any exam passed. Four exams will be available each month, and the total number of credits that any participant can earn in a year is 48. To participate in the monthly CME program, registered physicians are invited to read a specific question and any article indicated in this question, and then choose the single best answer. Answers are automatically registered in the CME program database. After answering a question, participants are automatically provided with the correct response and additional clarifications in order to improve their knowledge of clinical hematology further. In order to get their credits, participants should complete a program evaluation form within March 1st of the subsequent year (for instance, March 1st, 2011, with respect to the 2010 program)- They will then receive by e-mail their certificates of the credits obtained, as PDF documents.
Haematologica
assumes that each physician personally participates in the online CME program
and provides the answers, and therefore that he or she claims only the hours of
credit actually spent in this educational activity.
